About HLSIA
The Homeland Security Innovation Association (HLSIA) is a private non-profit 501 (c) (6) corporation.
Our professional association is dedicated to the goal of improving homeland security. Our primary objective is to represent and promote knowledge based enterprises working in this important sector. Our secondary objective is to inform the interested public of security threats and the most appropriate means to address them. HLSIA draws on the expertise of its membership which includes professionals trained in various disciplines. This human resource base includes policy-makers, social scientists, technical researchers and business leaders who analyze homeland security threats and develop effective innovative responses. Our professional networks evaluate policy options and dual-use technologies to better design and implement new security systems. Our multidisciplinary approach improves security systems by making them more cost effective and socially sound. When appropriate, we recommend certain safeguards to protect ordinary citizen rights, including privacy. Sometimes, there is a "tradeoff" between individual liberties and deployment of new technologies designed to combat terrorism. Getting the right balance requires a clear understanding of the nature of the threat and the appropriateness of the response.
The interested public is welcomed to review articles submitted by our professional members who will discuss homeland security policies and technologies in a candid and thought provoking way. We view our website as a citizen’s forum designed to facilitate research and responsible discussion of homeland security issues, drawing upon reliable information from sources in the public domain.
For those who would like to join HLSIA, we refer you to our "Services" webpage. In addition to professional memberships, we offer academic and general memberships to facilitate access to homeland security information and other benefits. For corporate entities with specific representational needs, we work with our affiliate organizations to assist you on issues related to pending legislation, representation at various conferences as well as task force participation in evaluating various regulatory issues, such as industry standards and interoperability of security-related equipment. We can also provide government procurement guidance and information on grant funding opportunities available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
