About HLSIA
Homeland Security Innovation Association (HLSIA) is a private non-profit corporation. Our primary goal is to represent and promote knowledge based enterprises/technologists working in the area of homeland security. An important secondary goal is to inform the interested public on homeland security issues and national policies. The latter will help identify promising technology-enabled systems that can assist households and firms in coping with security concerns. Our approach to homeland security is to adopt a multi-disciplinary analysis of security related issues. We believe this will improve the design of security systems which are not only more cost effective but also build in the essential safeguards to protect ordinary citizen rights, including privacy. We recognize that this poses an enormous challenge; nevertheless California has a strong comparative advantage in adapting technology to meet changing needs. This innovative tradition will help balance the costs of security enhancements with economic efficiency; while limiting unnecessary intrusions into the lives of ordinary citizens. The interested public is welcome to review articles submitted by our professional members who will discuss homeland security topics and technologies in a candid and thought provoking way. We encourage those who have expertise or special security concerns to interact with our professional members directly via email. We view our website as a citizen's forum designed to facilitate responsible discussion of homeland security issues, drawing upon reliable information from sources in the public domain. For those who would like to join HLSIA as professional members and contributors, we refer you to our “services” webpage. Our policy is to limit membership to one hundred new members each year, beginning in 2005. The reason is that each cohort group will be expected to network extensively and this is best done in smaller groups rather than larger groups typical of most associations. We also offer academic and general memberships for those interested in homeland security information. For corporate entities with specific representational needs, we work with our affiliate organizations to assist you on issues related to pending legislation, representation at conferences/expositions and participation in task forces addressing various regulatory issues, such as standards and interoperability of security-related equipment. We will also help (i) arrange contacts with experts in government procurement and (ii) access grants for applied R&D work in the area of homeland security. |
